The third year students of architecture explored the vernacular architecture of Manapad and Virapandianpatanam on 3rd and 4th March 2018. The students explored the spatial organization from macro level to micro level, hierarchy of street pattern. They were also exposed to observe and understand various climate responsive strategies practiced in the vernacular buildings. Students understood how climate, topography, local materials, culture, occupation, economy had influenced the spatial organization, housing typology and building construction.<\/span><\/p>\n

The students also explored the various elements of Early Christian Architecture and Early Gothic Architecture. A roof-top walk was organized at 130 years old St. Thomas Church, Virapandianpatanam – an adventurous way to study the construction of quadripartite vaults and the drainage system of the Gothic Churches. This helped them experience and understand the sense of scale and important elements of Gothic architecture.<\/p>\n
