Students Activity Report: Descriptive Writing \u2013 Crafting a Mini Lesson: Show; Don’t Tell<\/b><\/p>\n

The Department of English organized a student-centric activity titled <\/span>A Descriptive Writing: Crafting a Mini Lesson \u2013 Show; Don\u2019t Tell<\/b> on 7th July 2025 for the students of I B.Com (CA). The session focused on enhancing students’ creative and descriptive writing skills, with a special emphasis on the narrative technique of “Show; Don\u2019t Tell” \u2014 a powerful tool in storytelling that encourages students to express emotions and events vividly, rather than stating them plainly.<\/span><\/p>\n

The theme for the session was inspired by the autobiography “I Am Malala”, which offered students an opportunity to explore real-life experiences through expressive language. Through carefully guided activities, students were encouraged to portray scenes and emotions by incorporating sensory details, metaphors, and vivid imagery, drawing from the powerful narrative of Malala Yousafzai\u2019s journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

The session aimed to build students\u2019 confidence in writing with clarity and emotional depth, while also improving their overall communication skills. The interactive nature of the activity ensured enthusiastic participation from the students, who presented short descriptive passages that reflected their understanding of the technique.<\/span><\/p>\n

The activity was well-coordinated by Dr. B. Devibala, Assistant Professor, Department of English, who guided the students through the mini-lesson with engaging examples and constructive feedback.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall, the session served as an effective platform for students to develop their writing skills and appreciate the impact of thoughtful, descriptive narration.<\/span><\/p>\n
