\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Ragging of students admitted to the Institute is totally banned.\u00a0 Any violation of this by the students will be dealt with very severely.\u00a0 For your understanding, ragging a is CRIMINAL & NON-BAILABLE offence and is defined in legal parlance as, “the display of noisy, disorderly conduct and doing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear, shame or\u00a0 embarrassment to a student in any academic institution. This includes:- teasing, abusing, or playing\u00a0 practical\u00a0 jokes\u00a0 on\u00a0 or\u00a0 causing hurt to such student; or asking the student to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course be willing to do”. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Excerpts from the Directors of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in respect of curbing ragging in Educational Institutions:\u00a0 \u201cThe\u00a0 Head\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 institution\u00a0 (Vice-Chancellor\/Director\/Principal, etc.) should take immediate action on receipt of the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee. He can also take action suo motto if the circumstances so demand. Freshers should be encouraged to report incidents of ragging. Those who do not do so even when being witnesses or victims, should also be punished suitably.\u00a0 When the\u00a0 persons committing or abetting\u00a0 the crime of ragging are not identified, collective punishment could be resorted to as a possible deterrent\u00a0 measure,\u00a0 as it would ensure fraternity pressure on the potential raggers not to indulge in ragging\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts as per the AICTE \/ UGC act:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n
      \n
    1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student<\/li>\n
    2. Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student<\/li>\n
    3. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, torment embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such student<\/li>\n
    4. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student<\/li>\n
    5. Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students<\/li>\n
    6. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students<\/li>\n
    7. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person<\/li>\n
    8. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student<\/li>\n
    9. Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Punishments:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established, the possible punishments as per AICTE \/ UGC Section 9 for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level, shall be any one or any combination of the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. \n
          \n
        1. Suspension from attending classes<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Withholding\/withdrawing scholarship\/fellowship and other benefits<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Debarring from appearing in any test\/examination or other evaluation process<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Withholding results<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
        6. Suspension\/expulsion from the hostel<\/span><\/li>\n
        7. Cancellation of admission<\/span><\/li>\n
        8. Rustication from the institution for period ranging from 1 to 4 semesters<\/span><\/li>\n
        9. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution<\/span><\/li>\n
        10. Fine ranging between Rs. 25,000\/- and Rs. 1, 00,000\/-<\/span><\/li>\n
        11. Collective punishment: when the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall\u00a0resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure community pressure on the potential ragger<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
