The visit aimed to provide participants with firsthand exposure to the functioning of diesel engines, particularly those used in jeeps, and to gain an understanding of their individual components. This practical exposure was organized as part of our ongoing efforts to bridge theoretical knowledge with industrial practices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Team Composition:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Faculty Members: Arun Prakash, Assistant Professor (Mechanical).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Students: 22\u00a0 students of second year, Mechanical Engineering<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Upon arrival at Vincent Motors, the group was warmly welcomed by the staff, who initiated the session with a brief introduction to the workshop&#8217;s operations. The focus of the visit was a detailed demonstration of the working principles of a diesel engine used in jeeps. The session began with an explanation of the diesel engine&#8217;s design, emphasizing its core components, including the cylinder block, pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, and fuel injection system. The staff meticulously highlighted the role of each part, describing how the four-stroke cycle intake, compression, power, and exhaust operates seamlessly to produce motion.<\/p>\n<p>The technicians also provided insights into the importance of precision in timing mechanisms, such as the camshaft\u2019s synchronization with the crankshaft, to ensure efficient engine performance. Particular attention was given to the fuel injection system, where they explained the advantages of high-pressure fuel injection in achieving better combustion and reduced emissions. Real-world examples of maintenance issues, such as clogged fuel injectors or worn-out piston rings, were shared to provide practical problem-solving perspectives.
