Introduction<\/b><\/h3>\n

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the Mechanical Engineering Students Association (MESA) organized a one-day hands-on workshop titled <\/span>\u201cIdea to Product\u201d<\/b> on 12th September 2025. The primary objective of this workshop was to enable students to transform their innovative ideas into tangible products through a structured process involving design, fabrication, and performance testing.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Workshop Activities<\/b><\/h3>\n

The \u201cIdea to Product\u201d workshop was designed as an intensive, full-day, hands-on event that engaged III year Mechanical Engineering students in every phase of the product development cycle. The activities were carefully structured to simulate an industry-like environment and to enhance students\u2019 design thinking, technical skills, and problem-solving capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Key stages of the workshop included:<\/b><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Problem \/Idea\u00a0<\/b>\n
      \n
    • Each participating team was given a unique problem\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Alternatively, students were encouraged to propose their own innovative product ideas for consideration and approval by the coordinators.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Modeling<\/b>\n
        \n
      • Using CAD software, students converted their chosen concept into detailed 2D drawings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Faculty members provided guidance to ensure technical accuracy and manufacturability of the designs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Fabrication and Prototyping<\/b>\n
          \n
        • Teams moved on to the mechanical laboratories to fabricate their designed components using available machines and tools.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Operations included cutting, shaping, drilling, welding, assembling, and finishing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

           <\/p>\n

          1. Testing and Performance Evaluation<\/b>\n
              \n
            • The fabricated products were subjected to performance tests to evaluate their functionality, durability, and design efficiency.<\/span><\/li>\n
            • Students recorded the test results, identified design improvements, and demonstrated their products to the evaluation panel.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
            • Presentation and Peer Review<\/b>\n
                \n
              • Each team gave a brief presentation explaining their design concept, fabrication process, challenges faced, and performance results.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • The session encouraged peer learning and constructive feedback from faculty evaluators and fellow students.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                 <\/p>\n

                Feedback Session<\/b><\/h3>\n

                At the end of the technical sessions, a <\/span>feedback session<\/b> was organized to gather inputs from the participants. Students expressed that the workshop enhanced their practical skills, improved their understanding of design-to-production processes, and boosted their confidence to undertake real-time projects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

                 <\/p>\n

                Valedictory & Prize Distribution<\/b><\/p>\n

                The workshop concluded with a <\/span>valedictory session<\/b> presided over by <\/span>Dr. D. R. Rajkumar, Head of the Department.<\/b> In his address, he appreciated the participants for their enthusiastic involvement and congratulated the winning teams for their innovative projects. Certificates were distributed to all participants, and prizes were awarded to the best-performing teams based on creativity, design feasibility, and functionality of the products developed.<\/span><\/p>\n

                 <\/p>\n

                Vote of Thanks<\/b><\/h3>\n

                The event came to a close with a <\/span>Vote of Thanks<\/b> delivered by <\/span>Mr. V. Venkatesan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, CARE College of Engineering.<\/b> He expressed his gratitude to the management, principal, head of the department, faculty members, technical staff, and student volunteers for their support and cooperation.
