Industry Connect Course \u2013 OML351: Industrial Non-Destructive Testing (INDT)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Department of Mechanical Engineering, CARE College of Engineering<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an Industry Connect Course<\/em> on OML351 \u2013 Industrial Non-Destructive Testing (INDT)<\/strong> in collaboration with Techie NDT Pvt. Ltd., Trichy<\/strong>. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Madeswaran Nagarajan, Technical Director, Techie NDT Pvt. Ltd.<\/strong>, under the coordination of Mr. S. Arun Prakash S, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The program aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice by providing students with hands-on exposure to modern Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)<\/strong> techniques widely used in manufacturing, aerospace, and power industries.<\/p>\n

Session Highlights<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1. Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPI) \u2013 07.08.2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Students explored the principles, applications, and inspection procedures of LPI. They performed complete surface inspection workflows, identifying cracks and defects under both visible and fluorescent light.
Learning Outcome:<\/strong> Ability to perform LPI, interpret indications, and apply quality control procedures in real-world scenarios.<\/p>\n

The Liquid Penetrant Testing session successfully integrated theory and practice, giving students the confidence and technical knowledge to apply LPI in real-world engineering and manufacturing scenarios. Hands-on practice under the guidance of Mr. Madeswaran Nagarajan enhanced students\u2019 skills, ensuring alignment with industrial inspection standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Magnetic Particle Testing (MPI) \u2013 13.08.2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The session demonstrated the use of magnetization techniques to detect surface and subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials.
Learning Outcome:<\/strong> Students gained expertise in using magnetic particles, interpreting results, and understanding industrial relevance in inspecting shafts, axles, and weld joints.<\/p>\n

3. Eddy Current Testing (ECT) \u2013 21.08.2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This session focused on eddy current principles, coil design, and probe operation for detecting surface cracks and measuring coating thickness. Students analyzed impedance plane signals using portable ECT devices.
Learning Outcome:<\/strong> Competence in using ECT for conductivity measurement, surface flaw detection, and material sorting.<\/p>\n

4. Ultrasonic Testing (UT) \u2013 10.10.2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Conducted at Techie NDT Pvt. Ltd., Trichy<\/strong>, this session gave students industrial exposure to ultrasonic flaw detection. Participants used transducers and learned to interpret A-scan, B-scan, and C-scan displays.
Learning Outcome:<\/strong> Capability to detect internal flaws, interpret scan data, and apply ultrasonic testing in industrial quality assurance.<\/p>\n

5. Radiographic Testing (RT) \u2013 10.10.2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The concluding session introduced students to radiographic inspection using X-ray and gamma-ray sources. They learned about exposure techniques, film processing, and radiation safety procedures.
Learning Outcome:<\/strong> Understanding of radiographic film interpretation, digital radiography, and adherence to industrial safety and compliance standards.<\/p>\n
