A Workshop on Simulating Natural Ventilation using the water table apparatus concluded on 28th of November. The five day long workshop exposed students to the various principles and parameters of air movement. The experimental procedure of the water table apparatus and the relativity between the properties of water and air which is the basis for the apparatus were introduced .
Two residential buildings designed by Ar. VidyaShankar at Kumbakonam were taken as case examples. Manual models of the residences were made and various parameters such as orientation of the building and velocity of air movements were simulated in the water table apparatus. The documented videos were later analysed to understand the patterns of natural ventilation inherent to the design .Discussions on design solutions for the inferences were presented by the students at the end of the workshop.
