ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
This year’s orientation programme was structured as a series of workshops aimed at introducing the young entrants to the various facets of Architectural Education. Ranging from Theatre to art to design thinking, the underlying theme of the workshops was the mind and body coordination and heightened awareness of oneself and one’s environment, vital capacities for anybody aspiring to pursue Architecture.
24th to 27th Image-Medium –Actor
Resource person: Ar. Siddharth Singh, Architect –Designer –Animateur.
Using various mediums like Theatre, Graphic, Text and Collage the workshop touched upon the necessary aspects of any creative process besides enhancing soft skills for a better presence. Structured as a series of exercises the student was made aware of his strengths and limitations.
28th -30th Introduction to Watercolour, pastels, pen and ink and mixed medium as a means of Expression.
Resource persons: Mr. Manickavachagam, Academician and Artist. Mr. Mark Rathinaraj, Artist and Curator, Mr. Antony, Artist.
Through a series of live Demonstrations, notions of observation, visual perception and representation were explained, using still life compositions that were explored using various mediums.
31st Site visit to Tharasuram and Gangaikonda Cholapuram
An Insite into History and its Relevance in Architectural learning.
1st -5th September
Resource person: Mr. Murali Cheeroth, Artist, Theatre artiste and Academician
The workshop stressed on the “Body” as a medium of expression. Exposing students to a unique combination of body, space exercises and visual explorations emphasis was laid on development of individual values and establishing a vibrant and progressive studio culture.
6th September
Resource Persons: Mr. Naveen, Architect and Graphic Designer, Mr. Boopathy, Graphic Designer
The day long workshop looked to stimulate critical and analytical thinking , essential qualities to be cultivated in design aspirants.
