The Yercaud Study Trip 2026, organised for AR3902 Landscape and Ecology and AR3901 Urban Design, was conducted from 10 to 12 September 2026 with 48 students and 3 faculty members from C.A.R.E School of Architecture, Trichy. The study focused on understanding the relationship between landscape, ecology, urban morphology, mobility, tourism, topography, and colonial spatial planning in the hill town of Yercaud.
The students visited the Government Botanical Garden & Orchidarium, Yercaud Lake, Wild Orchid Estates, Hotel Shevaroys and Servarayan Temple, where they studied landscape zoning, circulation, biodiversity, colonial recreational landscapes, hill-town development, contour-responsive planning, built landscape relationships, tourism pressures, views and vistas, and movement networks.
The trip concluded with group discussions, urban morphology mapping, mental mapping, and identification of key urban design and landscape issues, enabling students to synthesise their observations and understand the opportunities and challenges of sustainable hill-town development.
