On October 29, 2024, a guest lecture on “Lean Elements” for the CME347 Lean Manufacturing course was held at CARE College of Engineering from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM in venue S.CR.F09. The session, coordinated by Mr. A. Antony Luki, M.E., (Ph.D.), Assistant Professor, was led by guest speaker Mr. T. Murugaperumal, B.E., from GEN Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd., Trichy. The event began with a welcome address from Mr. Antony Luki, who introduced the importance of Lean principles in manufacturing.
The Head of the Department, Dr. D.R. Rajkumar, delivered the Presidential Address, highlighting the value of Lean strategies in modern engineering practices. Mr. T. Murugaperumal session covered foundational Lean concepts such as the zero-defects philosophy, metrics for tracking quality and delivery, and strategies for reducing operational costs. Emphasis was placed on human resources as a key element in Lean, underscoring the role of employee engagement in continuous improvement processes. The lecture concluded with an interactive quiz of 20 questions, which tested the students’ understanding of Lean principles discussed during the session. This event provided valuable insights, encouraging students to apply Lean methods in future engineering challenges. Third-year mechanical engineering student Mr. Dennis Davin gave a closing address, adding a dynamic student perspective to the occasion.
