HADOOP RELATED TOOLS IN BIG DATA

On November 6, 2024, Dr. A. Muthumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Anna University Regional Campus, Madurai delivered a guest lecture that profoundly enriched the students of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The interactive format of the lecture encouraged dynamic discussions and facilitated a vibrant exchange of ideas, allowing participants to gain both theoretical insights and practical knowledge.

Dr. A. Muthumari began the session by giving an overview of the importance of Hadoop in the field of Big Data. He explained Hadoop’s role as an open-source framework that facilitates the storage and processing of large data’s in a distributed environment. The lecture covered the following main topics:

  1. Introduction to Hadoop Ecosystem: Muthumari discussed the key components of Hadoop, including HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) and MapReduce, as well as their functionalities and importance.
  2. Hadoop-Related Tools:
    • Apache Hive: A data warehouse software that enables querying and managing large datasets in Hadoop using a SQL-like language.
    • Apache Pig: A high-level platform for creating MapReduce programs, which simplifies complex data transformations.
    • Apache HBase: A NoSQL database used for real-time read/write access to large datasets.
    • Apache Sqoop: A tool used for transferring data between Hadoop and relational databases.
    • Apache Flume: A tool for collecting, aggregating, and moving large amounts of log data.
  1. Applications of Hadoop Tools: He provided examples of how these tools are applied in real-world scenarios, emphasizing the benefits in industries such as e-commerce, finance, healthcare, and social media.

The lecture was followed by an interactive Q&A session where students asked questions about the practical applications of Hadoop tools, the skills required to work with these tools, and career opportunities in the field of Big Data and Hadoop-related technologies. Dr. A. Muthumari provided insights and shared resources for further learning.
