Industry Visit Industry 4.0 Centre, Government ITI, Viralimalai

The Department of Mechanical Engineering arranged an industrial visit to the Industry 4.0 Centre, Government ITI, Viralimalai, with the objective of providing practical exposure to advanced manufacturing, automation technologies under Industry 4.0 and keeping Sustainable Development Goals in mind. From our department, 49 students of Mechanical Engineering (II Year and III Year) and 3 staff actively attended the visit The faculty members are Dr. D. R. Rajkumar, Head of the Department, and Mr. R. Parthiban, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering.

The program began with a welcome address by the In-Charge of the Industry 4.0 Centre Mr.V.Manikandan Asst. Training Officer.  In the introductory session, Mr.Varatharajan,JTO explained the concept, importance, and scope of Industry 4.0, highlighting the role of automation, digital manufacturing, and smart systems in modern industries. The students were also briefed on the technologies available at the centre and how they are aligned with current industrial requirements.

Following the introduction, the students were divided into two batches one is 3rd year another batche is 2nd year. They were taken for a detailed hands-on demonstration of various Industry 4.0 technologies. The students observed and interacted with advanced systems such as pick-and-place robots, spot welding robots, laser engraving machines, advanced CNC machines, and 3D printing systems including selective laser sintering. The working principles, industrial applications, and safety aspects of each machine were also clearly explained by Mr.Rajadurai, Instructor and Mr.Hakkim, Instructor, Mr.Venkatesan, SME (TATA). The students showed great enthusiasm and interest by actively participating in operating the machines and robots, gaining valuable practical exposure beyond classroom learning.

Overall, the industrial visit was highly informative, interactive, and beneficial. Students got real-time exposure to Industry 4.0 technologies. Finally HoD/Mechanical, thanked the Principal, Asst. Training Officer and industry trainer for making this industry visit fruitful to students and staff.
