On January 24, 2025, a hands on workshop for third year mechanical students on COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURING was conducted at the CAD/CAM Lab. The event was led by Dr. D. R. Rajkumar, Professor and Head of the Mechanical Department, with Mr. A. Antony Luki, Assistant Professor, serving as the Coordinator. The session began at 9:00 AM with a welcome address by Mr. A.Antony Luki/AP, followed by an inspirational speech from Dr. K. Kannan, Dean of Academics, who motivated the students to engage with the hands-on learning opportunity presented by the workshop. A total of 18 students participated in the workshop, which proved to be both educational and motivating for those interested in CNC machines and part programming. All are SAE members.
In the forenoon session, Dr. D.R.Rajkumar/Prof., discussed Introduction about CAM, G, M, X, Y, Z, S , F codes and connect with conventional machining processes like Lathe and Milling as well as drilling also. The students were then given the chance to practice part programming using EdgeCAM, a software (NC Editor and NC Verify) that enhances their CNC Programming skills in computer-aided manufacturing. This interactive session allowed students to gain practical knowledge and understanding of CNC LATHE and CNC MILL programming, which is essential for the mechanical engineering field.
The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony by Dr. S. Shanthi Principal, CARE College of Engineering who acknowledged the students’ active participation. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. S. Kamalesh, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student.
