The Day 6 session of the programme was conducted on “Career Guidance & Placement Opportunities”, with Mr. Martin, AVP – HR at IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power Company Limited, as the resource person. The session focused on helping students understand corporate expectations, employability skills, professional behaviour and the importance of preparing for their careers from the first year of college.
Mr. Martin emphasized the importance of leadership, responsibility and ownership in the workplace. He inspiringly stated, “Leadership often begins with one simple sentence: ‘I’ll take care of it”. He encouraged students to take initiative, accept responsibilities and develop a proactive attitude rather than waiting for others to guide them.
The speaker also highlighted the importance of building a strong professional identity. He aptly remarked, “Your résumé should not be a list of what you attended. It should be an evidence of what you became capable of”. Mr. Martin introduced a Four-Year Career Roadmap, emphasizing that career preparation should begin from the first year itself. They were also encouraged to gain practical exposure and prepare themselves for placement opportunities well before their final year.
The session concluded with an inspiring message: “Your career is not built in your final year. It is built in the small choices you make from your first year.” Overall, the session was highly informative, interactive and motivating.
