THREE DAYS HANDS-ON WORKSHOP ON AutoCAD

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, CARE College of Engineering, organized a Three-Day Hands-on Workshop on AutoCAD from 23.06.2026 to 25.06.2026 at the CAD/CAM Laboratory. Prior to the workshop, willingness was obtained from the students to participate in the training program. A total of 39 students responded to the willingness survey, of which 4 students expressed their inability to participate, and the remaining 32 students actively participated in the workshop.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. D. R. Rajkumar, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Mr. A. Antony Luki, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, CARE College of Engineering. During the three-day workshop, students were introduced to the fundamentals of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and the AutoCAD software environment, including the AutoCAD interface, drawing area, navigation tools, and coordinate systems. They learned basic drawing commands such as Line, Circle, Arc, Rectangle, and Polygon, followed by editing tools including Trim, Extend, Offset, Mirror, Copy, Move, and Rotate. The participants also gained knowledge of dimensioning, annotation, layers, object properties, text, and leader commands used in engineering drawings. Practical sessions enabled the students to create and edit 2D engineering drawings, prepare engineering drawing shapes with proper dimensions, and develop simple mechanical components with orthographic views. The workshop also introduced the basics of 3D modelling using the Extrude command and 3D navigation tools. The program concluded with a practical assessment, drawing submission, feedback session, and valedictory functions, where students successfully demonstrated the skills they had acquired throughout the training.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. A. Antony Luki, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, CARE College of Engineering, who expressed his gratitude to the management, faculty members, and students for their enthusiastic participation and support in making the workshop a success. The program concluded with the distribution of participation certificates to all the students. The participants expressed positive feedback, stating that the workshop enhanced their AutoCAD skills and improved their confidence in preparing engineering drawings and basic mechanical designs using CAD software.
