The Department of Mechanical Engineering, CARE College of Engineering, organized an Industry Integrated Course on “Introduction to Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)” on 11 September 2026 for IV Year Mechanical and Civil Engineering students. The session was conducted by Mr. M. Praveen, ASNT Level-II certified NDT professional and NDT Inspector from Thamizh NDT Consultancy, Trichy. The course covered Eddy Current Testing (ECT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT), including their principles, equipment, probes, calibration, scanning techniques, signal interpretation, and industrial applications.
Outcome
The programme enhanced students’ practical knowledge and industrial awareness of NDT techniques. Students gained hands-on exposure to equipment familiarization, probe selection, calibration using reference standards, scanning, and basic defect detection. They also understood the application of NDT in heat exchanger tubes, boiler and condenser tubes, welds, castings, forgings, pipes, and pressure vessels, strengthening their readiness for industrial inspection and quality-control applications.
