The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, CARE College of Engineering, organized a Design Thinking Field Visit for III Year ECE students on 05 August 2026 near Chathiram Bus Stand. The programme provided students with an opportunity to observe real-world situations and identify practical problems from the users’ perspective. Students worked in teams and followed the stages of design thinking, including empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, testing and impact assessment. Through direct observation, discussion and brainstorming, students developed innovative solution concepts for identified challenges. The activity enhanced experiential learning and encouraged students to apply engineering knowledge to real-world problems.
Outcome of the Programme
The Design Thinking Field Visit provided III Year ECE students with practical exposure to identifying and understanding real-world problems through direct observation and user interaction. Students worked collaboratively to understand user needs, define problem statements, generate innovative ideas and develop suitable solution concepts. The activity enhanced creativity, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and user-centred design skills. Students also gained an understanding of how ECE technologies such as sensors, embedded systems, IoT and wireless communication can be applied to address practical community challenges. The programme promoted experiential and collaborative learning, contributing to SDG 4 – Quality Education. By encouraging innovation and technology-oriented problem solving, it supported SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Identification of challenges in public and community environments contributed to SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, while encouraging efficient and sustainable solution approaches supported SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. Overall, the programme strengthened students’ innovation mindset and social responsibility.
